I have done a new build very successfully, using some parts from my previous build along with new ones. I have had issues with my 5770 for months- sometimes it won't boot the display, other times it will, I get flickering and fragments etc and it has been getting worse and worse.

Anyway, due to the issues I have been having I have simply been using the onboard graphics of my new mobo (Z68 Pro3) whilst I have been installing everything etc on the new install of windows, but upon putting the GPU back (and yes I did it properly) I noticed a great deal of heat coming from the case, followed by that lovely plastic burning smell. I shut down immediately and whilst at first I thought it may be a CPU issue it quickly became apparant that the GPU was fried as it was so hot you coudln't touch it- not to mention it smelt like somebody had just put a load of pc components on a bonfire.

This is no disaster as I was going to upgrade anyway, although it does bring it forward a few months. My budget is £150-£200, perhaps a little more if it means a decent step up for not a great deal more money.

What I want is bang for buck, great overclocking, reliability and power. I only run one GPU and will not be adding a second in the future (I can't anyway). I game with one monitor at 1080p.

At first I was leaning towards a 2gb 6950 but I thought about switching to Nvidia as I have had nothing but problems with my 5770 and I am not the biggest fan of their software. If going for Nvidia it would probably have to be a 560ti as a 570 would probably be too expensive.

Any advice much appreciated.

6950 2GB is the best bang for buck currently. If you hate AMD, then you may consider 560 Ti or 470.

6950 is very good bang for the buck specielly if you manage to get the rev 1 with the dual bio switch meaning you can unlock it to a 6970. if you want nvidia try the gtx 560ti phantom 2gb, or a gtx 570.
