Hello all! Long time lurker, first time poster!
Any who, I recently bought a new 5770 to breath some life into my old rig. The problem I've come across is that every time I leave my computer idle, the output to my monitors disappears. Its similar to as if it were in low power mode; computer still running but nothing on the screen.
It wouldn't be a problem if it was in low power or sleep mode but the computer doesn't wake up no matter what I do. It seems odd because I have the power options set so that the displays are never turned off and that the computer never goes to sleep. I end up resorting to the reset button. =(
Just to describe an instance of this problem...I left the computer on to download bfbc2 and supcom2 off steam while I was at work. After coming home from work I turned on my monitors but the no display messages popped up on both monitors. I moved and tapped the mouse and mashed all possible keyboard keys but nothing happened. The no display messages on the monitors were still present. I then proceeded to plug and unplug the dvi connectors and even switched them around just for luck but the same no display messages still pop up. The computer was still on and the fan on the 5770 was still spinning.
Everything seems to work perfectly fine when I'm using my computer normally; games/browsing and whatnot. Something else to add is that when I left for work, download progress for bfbc2 was at 18%. When I came back and reset my computer after the no display problem, bfbc2 was still at 18%.
Just to clarify (important and possibly trivial information):
- All power settings are set so that nothing is turned off or put to sleep when idle for long amounts of time
- The settings in the bios allow me to wake up a computer from usb devices.
- The only thing that has changed from my setup is that I went from an 8800gt to a 5770.
- I performed a clean install of windows 7 before installing the 5770
- Desktop mode was set to extended on all three occasions this has happened
- Core temp as of right now is 40 degrees Celsius with fan speed set to increase as temp increases (using MSI afterburner).
- Computer has been in use about 2 hours before submitting this thread (most of the 2 hours were spent furiously googling a possible solution or an instance of someone else with the same issue)
- 5770 is at stock clocks
My rig:
Asus P5NE-Sli
Intel C2D E6750 @ 2.93Ghz
4gb g.skill DDR2 @ 800 Mhz
Windows 7 Home Premium (x64)
XFX 5770 (shroud cooler with cheapo pcb) using 10.4 catalyst drivers
I might try updating the drivers later...though like I said, absolutely no problems whatsoever when playing games and using the computer normally. I might also try updating the motherboard bios to rev. 1406 since the card has compatibility issues with the P5NE-Sli; takes awhile to boot up!
Hopefully this problem is just down to user error but I can live with it doing this since everything else seems to be fine when in use. It is annoying though...leave your computer on 8 hours to download games off steam only to come back and see that no progress has been made. D=
