Hey guys, i've got a HD 5770 at the moment and I currently only played wow which it was more than enough for.

But i shall be purchasing BF3 and MW3 along with some more games soon.

I played the BF3 beta and my 5770 really underperformed. I have looked at
69**, as i read about flashing them somewhere and also the 560Ti.

Money's not really an issue but i'm not going to be throwing £400 at a card.

What would you guys recommend?

it would be paired with 2500k @ 4.4ghz, 8gb xms3, win 7.

get a second hand 5870 for about £100 :D

He might as well get another 5770 for £50 and go crossfire, same performance less money.

Looking at the benchmarks for the Beta version if you want to play this on the highest settings and 1080p then you really need a high end crossfire/sli setup to get decent performance.

I would just stick another 5770 in there.. That should cost you less than £50 and should easily get into 560Ti performance.. Not sure how a 5870 would pair with the 5870 if at all and would likely bring performance down to 5770 in CF anyway.. And i would use the additional cash you save for a nice SSD to help loading games performance... :)

A HD 5870 wouldn't work in Crossfire with a HD 5770.

I think it was being suggested to get a HD 5870 to replace the HD 5770 which is the aternative to buying another HD 5770

Sell The HD 5770 for £50 and the upgrade to a HD 5870 might then cost £50.

i just went from a saphire 5770 1gig to a msi 560ti 2gig, very happy with the increase cost me £199 though. I would have considered crossfireing but my board only does x16 x4 on the second slot.

The last I saw he had a Corsair 520W (HX?) so it'll be enough as long as he doesn't go mental on a new GPU.

Yep that's the one mate.

If i do xfire the 5770 there is no options in the future to upgrade unless i sell them both. thinking of spenind 250 on gfx, if it's justifiable i'll upgrade the psu too.

See sig I have the same setup as you apart from having 5770 xfire.
I run the beta with the latest drivers (off AMD site) at 1920x1200 at the default HIGH settings at 40-70 fps.
Im not gonna upgrade untill the next release of cards so maybe an extra £50 5770 will do you until then also.
From what ive been reading you're not going to be maxing out BF3 without SLI/Xfire top end cards - depends if you have the budget I guess.

I would just get a 5870 for £110, sell your 5770 for about £50. You'll have a gig vram to play with and you can always crossfire another 5870 a year down the line.

2 5770's is gonna use more power, produce more heat, make more noise and will generally be more unreliable compared to a single 5870.

The cost will be about the same (£50/60) whether you buy another 5770 or sell yours and get a 5870.

I dont disagree that the 5870 is the easier option (tbh would have got one if the stock was there) but from my experience my 5770s make bugger all noise as they are not high end cards and I dont notice the extra heat. I dont monitor the power they use but I only have a 650w supply so cant be too great.

The only games Ive had issues with with xfire is F1 2010 and Dirt 2 - Had to wait before drivers got sorted out. Other than that everythings been as easy as having a single card.

Maybe Im just lucky :D

i personally have just got rid of one of my 5770's (new rig soon so selling off bits) i honestly dont notice any difference in performance when i stuck another 5770 in, just my 2 pence, i can still play the games i play on exactly the same settings with 1 of the cards.
