5770 Passive Cooler

or the 5750- either way I would like passive cooling (preferably without water) to bitstream DolbyTrueHD from my HTPC, and maybe play some Left4Dead.

Im pretty sure cooling a 5770 with a passive cooler will make things a bit toasty. Wouldn't an another after-market solution with quieter fans than the stock cooler be better, or as mentioned, you could have it in a w.c. loop with a fan-less radiator.

The thing here though is that Passive cooling makes the graphics card silent. But it requires there to be good airflow (aka fans) in the case. These fans would have to work harder to get the air through (if they're PWM) due to this, and so be louder. It would be far better to get a near silent fan on the cooler which you wouldn't be able to hear over the case fans, PSU fan, CPU fan or even HDD anyway.

I have an Antec Fusion case with 2 x 800rpm Noctua fans exhausting air from the 2 side vents. As these are virtually silent I would prefer not to add any more fans to this setup if I can avoid it. However I would also consider a passive sink that I could attach another Noctua to if necessary.

If I can get the power of the 5750 or 5770 whilst maintaining passive/silent cooling I would be very happy.

Would any of the heatsinks designed to work with the ATI 4 series work with the 5 series?

There are posts on some forums of people getting last gen's heatsinks. It did seem as some required some DIY changes- bent fins.

The sapphire vapor-X 5750 is due out in early nov, 3rd iirc, but I am not sure about it's big brother.
