5770 tearing problem

My mate has a 6 month old xfx xxx 5770 pre oc'd and he recently moved to using a HDMI cable instead of a DVI and updated to latest drivers, a few days after playing Black ops he gets what he describes as "tearing" in the walls and textures.

I have told him to go back to old drivers but if that doesnt help then what do i suggest next?

What is the rest of the system specs?
Is it still overclocked? If so he could try stock clocks.

Q6600 at stock (H50'd) , not sure on MB, corsair tx 750, 4gb ram.

Yes it is still at the clock speeds he got it at.

I get tearing in BO sometimes too, sometimes it can freeze as well, but haven't played since the latest amd update

Tearing occurs when fps is higher than the refresh rate.

This is recently (past week) but not so recently that I've played with updated drivers. Dunno if that makes sense? Will have a play later if I get time and let you know if the problem is gone

I get 140 fps and have a 60hz refresh rate though and dont have any troubles.

Will give it a try.

Try this. My mate had a similiar problem on a 4890 in one particular game and v-sync resolved it.
