Hi, I'm looking for a cheapish, but decent stop gap card that will handle the latest games reasonably well for the next 6 months or so. I'm not really in a position to fork out on a 5870 yet so a card under the 120 quid mark is what I'm after.

After looking into a few cards I found that the 5770 would appear to be a better card than the older 4870, but the benchmarks prove otherwise.

My question is, should I go for the newer 5770 for the sake of DX11 when it becomes more widely available or get an older 4870 for increased frame rates now ?

What would you guys do ?

Tbh the 5770 won't fair well with new dx11 games coming out in high res, so i'd be inclined to go for the 4870 for now if you can find one cheap enough.

Depends on what price you can get a 4870 for really, the 5770 is faster than a 4870. It sits between the 4870 and 4890 speed wise. 4870s tend to go on the members market for around the £80 mark, and 4890s are quite scarce now, so it depends wether you want to spend the extra 30 quid on a 5770 =)

In your opinion would it be worth spending the extra on a 5770 just for future proofing against DX11 sake ?

Have a look in the MM, some good deals around. The only reason to think about 5770 in terms of DX11 is if you're considering X-fire, on its on it doesn't have the grunt to do DX11 justice and you'll probably drop back to DX10 for the extra FPS.

Ahh cool, cheers for the info. Where is this elusive members market ? Cant seem to find it on the forum list.

Where is the members market  Do I have to make a strange signal on a virtual brick wall and knock 3 times to enter or something ? :D

Second hand 4890 = win DX11 is not supported that well at the moment and when it is supported well all the current cards won't run fast enough anyways since they struggle a lot with DX11 features.
