long time lurker on the gpu forum but never posted was looking for some advice

at the mo ive got a zotac gtx 580, it runs everything i throw at it fine and it had me wondering, is this overkill for the res im playing at?

i usually run it to a 24 sammy monitor @ 1080x1920, occasionaly it'll get put on a 32 lcd tv which is only 720p, so was just wondering if i downgraded to the 570 would i notice any difference?

the plan was get the 570 and when it starts to struggle just go sli

thanks for any replies

Ross

Even the 570 is overkill at your res unless your monitor happens to be 120Hz, so you wouldn't notice any difference downgrading. Wouldn't recommend SLI as a future upgrade strategy though.

na just 60 hz, not planning going 3d either as it seems to give me headaches

looks like the 570 it is

why not recommend sli?, thought support for it was better than it used to be?

Support is considerably better and gains are pretty much linear now, but the fact is that it doesn't represent great value for money. You need to buy a more expensive motherboard and PSU, you won't need to upgrade to SLI for a good 3-4 years, and you'll only get an extra 1-2 years before you need to replace it with brand new cards anyway. You're better off simply sticking with a single card, and then replacing that card with a newer, better one when it's no longer any good.

so in the long run am i better sticking with the 580 will it last as long as two 570's would do ya think?
