So I'm building an ITX (Prodigy) rig and I've decided all the parts expect the GPU. I've been thinking of a GTX670 but everytime I think if the 580 is enough.

Obviously the 670 is better but cost twice as much as a 580 (Used, which I dont mind). The 670 also uses less power, but the PSU I've picked should handle either of them.

I'm playing on 1080p monitor, which is also why I currently wonders if 580 can handle it.

The biggest factor is my budget. I can afford everything but the GPU. The 670 is around 300 quids in Denmark, referance that is. The 580 has been spotted for around 145 quids with extra cooling.

Please, what do you guys think? :-)

I guess it depends what you expect from a 580? If you expect a minimum number of fps in games, use mods and high levels of AA, then it might not cut the mustard in all titles.

Or, if you're like myself, and don't have a specific frame rate in mind, just as long as it's smooth, are happy with FXAA if you have to use it, then you should be absolutely fine. The card in my sig is as fast as a stock 580, and serves me very well. I use mods as well, and I should add that I game at 1200p. Hope this helps.

Thank for the suggestions guys.

I just sold my old rig which actually had 7850, but it was a reference one so it was quite noisy. Also, I've been running ATI for the past years (Some 2600 series, 5850 and 7850) and thought it was time for a change, hence my interest in nVidia. :)

I'm not the big modder. I love to play games from TF2, Skyrim to newer titles like Arkham City, Borderlands 2, Mass Effect 3, and Planetside 2. I only use options games give me (AA and AF) and dont use apps like inspector (I might try with the new card though).

Looking at price/performance and it's still a nVidia. The 660 is my main interest now. If it also can overclock then cool!

I went from Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB OC SLi ~ GTX 580 performance to a single MSI GTX 660 TwinFrozr III OC 2GB card and I'm getting the same performance and often a bit better in DX 11 games. I can definitely say good for GTX 660. I'm gaming Crysis 2 in 1920x1080 4xAA, DX11, Ultra high textures etc and it runs smooth.

A GTX 580 is fine for 1080p. You can play everything with detail settings upto the max speaking from experience.

However if you are building an ITX rig then with a 580 heat is a problem. You need to go with the most heat efficient with performance rather than just out and out performance at 1080p.

The 7850 is often touted as a good choice for the price. However you wanna go nvidia then the 660 should be fine for 1080p. Which one were you considering though the vanilla 660 or the Ti ?
