Might be treating myself to a second 580 in short, just wondered if I would encounter any problems with a 1000w PSU

It's a jeantech, so going from some googling, I'm not sure it would be supplying that full 1000w

thoughts?

no PSU's supply 100% power. The best ones have 80-90% efficiency so I'm not sure you're getting near 1000 on that brand you noted. Never heard of them myself. If you are running SLI 580's then you'll need a good branded PSU of 1000 - Corsair or Antec or Be Quiet etc...

you're talking over £150 for a good one (1000watt and over)though

I just shuddered at the name.

Would definitely suggest getting a good quality PSU before commiting to 580 SLI

jeantech are pretty much a cheap brand, but having said that i once used a 600w and the build quality was very good and it never let me down, its hard to say really depends on amps rails and all that

It depends. If it's a single rail 850W then definitely no problem. If it's something like the Corsair HX1000 then due to being unable to do load balancing between rails it's not safe guarantee.

arent jeantech a rebrand of a well known manufacturer? i cant remember who

has it got the bronze 80+ certification? and what amps on the 12v rails does it say it can do?

That's not quite correct. The efficiency % tells you the wattage the PSU needs to draw from the wall to supply your PC with X wattage. So an 85% efficient PSU would need to draw 500 watts from the wall to provide your PC with 425 watts of electrical nom nom.

This Jeantech 1000w PSU got a got review

http://www.xtremecomputing.co.uk/articles_pages/jeantech_absolute_1000w_modular_psu,6.html

Pros
• Quiet
• Lots of power
• Plenty of modular connections available
• 12v Rails clearly labelled for easy load balancing

Cons
• Not cheap (Though this much power never is)

Reality Check: The Jeantech Absolute is a solid PSU that handled a relatively high end quad core system with ease. It is quiet to boot and will no doubt be priced competitively with other PSU’s in this class.
