Hey guys.
was browsing last night and ended up buying a new gpu 3060ti Fe
this is to replace my 2060 fe (non super)

so now after sleeping on it
I’ve now decided to replace my mb along with a new 5800x cpu also will need some ram Which I’m a bit unsure untill I decide on the Mb.
What are peoples thoughts or are there any other good options about ?

What is your current spec and what is your budget?

B550 motherboard is the way to go with some 3600Mhz RAM.

I have a B550 Gigabyte Aurous Elite V2, with the 8Pack 32Gb RAM kit with my 5800X.

More than any other component, motherboards have diminishing returns the higher end you go. A base £115 b550 will give you 95% of the features a £250 b550 - that is, unless you put value on extra LED headers, a plastic shround, and racing stripes. Even one of the biggest selling points on higher end mobos, strong VRMs, will net you maybe a 1-2% more overclocking headroom over an entry-level board. I've not once owned a £250 motherboard and thought "that extra £100 was totally worth it."

I'd say, unless there are extra real features you need e.g. two M.2 slots, get an Asus Prime or Gigabyte Gaming X b550, and steer clear of mobos with flashy desing and lights (and flashy prices).

Ran can get Corsair away at mo(seems to be cheaper than here)
1)32 gb 2x16 lpx 3600c18 £101.99 on offer
2) same size, Vengeance rgb pro sl 3600C18 £112..non sl £117
3)Vengeance rgb rt gunmetal 3600C16 for £129.98

Board, again, same place as above, they have the Asus gaming B550 plus II wifi on offer for £149.99 (ocuk is £178 or thereabouts)

so £280 with most expensive ram
5800x £260 so £540
could go 5600X for £169 I think and get a nvme

sorry, zoom call, had to stop looking

Thanks mate, had the 5600x in mind before as I upgraded my sons to the same this crimbo just gone.
he also bought a nvidia gigabyte aorus rtx 3070ti for his birthday and I can’t fault it.

now after doing a bit more looking about this evening I’m still non the wiser..

looks like 5800x vs 5600x/3600 there is not a lot of difference for the price to pound scale?
I always thought the 3600/5600x was pretty similar when searching to upgrade his before

ive got a few ssds and also m.2 from my current build, and a newish synology nas trying to get off data hoarding

def a difference between ryzen 5000 and ryzen 3000 cpu's if you look at the above. You will get slightly better fps with a 5800x in some games(some), but most games still rely on the single thread clock speed of a cpu, so it's marginal at best I reckon. Also depends on the games to be honest..I've got a 5800X, as at the time i managed to nab one for £20 more than a 5600x(at time 5600X was £290), and the idea was I was going to use pc for work also, so thought extra cores might come in usefull. With drop in price of the 5600x for £170 and 5800X £260, don't think I'd pay the extra £90. Could even look at the 5600, which is only a few % diff from the x version..think that's at £140
so £150 mobo, £130 ram, £170 cpu ..£450...save another £60ish if go for 5600 and non rgb ram..

actually, better review below..got to 14min 25 for 11 game av

also a good one to watch as compares 6 cor with 8 core..and if you do pay up, price of 5800x so close to 5700x, just get 5800x, but as said, I'd prob save money..for £700 odd, you can go AM5 playform

Thanks again mate for taking the time
now I’m thinking do I drop a bit more cash and go am5? but then I’m looking another 200ish for ram?

This is why I don’t come on here very often
all I was doing last night was searching for ideas for a 3rd monitor for my sons Xmas present!
and now I’ve bought a new gpu which has made me now gonna spend even more cash on a complete upgrade … also if I did go for say a 7600x will it be a overkill for the 3060ti?

Ha ha ha. Stick to the 5600/5600x. The £400-450 price mark will get you z decent gaming fps without going overboard..more to point out you didn't need to go to the £600 mark..3060ti is a great card for 1080p/1440 with dlss...never actually looked at 3060ti with 5800x3d and 5600x comparison though...seeing as you just got your card, buy time you upgrade that in 3 years, they'll be new boards and cheaper ram..if you were going 4080 or something, I'd say it's worth it, as overall cost as a percentage wont be huge difference, but with 3060ti, think 5600x /am4 platform rght balance

Heres more temptation then.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £719.98 (includes delivery: £0.00)

The main problem with the AM5 platform is its over priced especially with ddr 5 prices still. The other advantage it hat in a few years you should still be able to drop in a new chip for that instant upgrade unlike Intel or the AM4 platform.

Ha ha . Exactly what I had in my basket...then thought if paying that might as well go gen5 gpu/nvme...Asus b650e gaming f wifi...always something to temp you to spend that little bit more.
Sensible choice b550 though with new 3060ti..you'd get more frames putting the £300 towards a 6800xt/3080, or wait to see what AMD announce today...
@bigtrak how often do you upgrade your setup? Main benefit of going am5(as well as benefit of getting 5800x3d gaming cpu speed equivalent)

I was just gonna wait untill the new year todo any upgrade to be honest,
but Impulse bought the gpu the other night

think I’m almost certain I may aswell go am5 as that way I’m sort of covered for a while upgrade wise.
just would seem a shame buying a 5600x and another am4 mb untill my next upgrade as that’s my sons current build
which I made for him. So couldn’t even pass that onto him as it wouldn’t benefit him.
plus his talking about going for a intel build next…more money.

amd announcing their next gen gpu's in just over 20mins...lets hope they give indication of pricing
k, with am5 build, the tuf gaming board above is a pcie4gpu slot and gen4 nvme slot only...
next level up would be something like the asus gaming a, which gives you a gen5 nvme slot about £288 if i remember
then asus gaming f..gives you gen4 nvme, 2 gen4 nvme and a pcie5 gpu slot £310
gaming e gives you extra gen4 nvme slot(so 3)as well as the gen5 one, the pcie5 gpu slot and digital post display on mobo for £360
also as you go up the stack the vrm's increase etc also
these are all b650e and b650 boards
X670e and x670 boards give you some more pcie lanes to play with, but the gaming e equivalent is £560 or somewhere there(so you pay a lot more)..personally think you get enough on the b650 boards, and still get plenty of usb inputs on back etc
if going amd, you can get 6000c32 ram away for £217..getting the faster ram might help in future..only downside of building now..no idea what ram will be like in a couple of years, and how much it might hamper gaming etc

I Went for the founders edition, as my 2060fe has never sagged at all hopefully this one doesn’t?
but just been looking at ideas how I want it too look build wise, and can’t believe
some bright spark at nivdiot has decided with placing the power lead smack bang in the middle front!
was hoping for a nice clean build aswell
