5800x won't POST on two separate boards

Posting from my phone so apologies for the brevity.

I was lucky enough to secure myself a 5800x on launch. All my components arrived by last Monday so I put it all together and after some struggles with flashing the BIOS on my Aorus x570 Elite I was able to install windows.

Everything ran smoothly for a day or so, not running any OC, temps appeared fine, but then suddenly whilst testing HL Alyx the machine just turns off, no stutter or BSOD, just a full power down. I try to POST from here, the fans and LEDs spin up but nothing on the monitor and doesn't appear to be loading. Tried an old GPU, different PSU, swapping the RAM modules, reflashing the bios, but nothing worked.

I figured the motherboard had an issue, so requested a refund and bought an ROG Strix x570 F Gaming. Moved all my components to that and flashed the BIOS. But again it fails to POST.

This board has error lights on it and they indicate a GPU error (white solid LED). My current GPU is a 1080, but I tried swapping this with an old 290 I have lying around, still nothing.
Tried reflashing the BIOS on different compatible revisions, resetting CMOS, trying GPU in different slots, reseating the CPU etc etc.

Is my CPU dead? I'm really at a loss as to what it could be right now. I've wasted a week troubleshooting and waiting for a new board.

Do I just return everything and cut my losses?

Welcome to the forum, have you checked the cpu for bent pins, assembled the motherboard outside the case, put in the minimum number of components, tried cpu in another system(if you are able), plugged in all the motherboard power cables and graphics card cables, adjust the cpu heatsink tension as sometimes the motherboard can bend if it is to tight?

Hi Tony's,

I've tried the CPU on two different boards, adjusted the heatsink, checked for dirty/bent pins, assembled outside the case with minimum components and ensured all PCI, CPU and motherboard power cables are attached securely. Everyone it cycles through the post lights, orange (ram), red (CPU), then stops on white (VGA)

Had a quick look on google and it came up with ram issues also with the white led, can you get a friend to test your components? If not you may have to send the cpu and motherboard back for testing or refund.

Could you list your components so others may notice something?

I've spent quite some time on Google looking at this too, I have two sticks of RAM in there and have alternated them and still get the same error, if I take them out I get the orange light, which is supposed to signify a RAM error. Unfortunately it's lockdown here so I'm not likely to be able to borrow components.

Components

5800x CPU
ROG Strix x570 F Gaming motherboard
970 Evo plus nvme drive (tried booting with this connected and disconnected)
2x 16gb Corsair vengeance 3600mhz ddr4
Zotac geforce 1080 (have also tested with an AMD 290)
Xfx Pro series 850w

Infant mortality is still a thing in the IT world. My Titan X failed the day after it arrived. Do you get any beep codes?

No beeps because no speaker available unfortunately.

I've decided to send the CPU back in for testing as honestly I can't see what else it could be, I've changed literally every other part

Have you plugged the right power cables from your PSU to the GPU? You might have mistakenly plugged in peripheral power cables (6pins and 8pins also) into the GPU which won’t give enough juice.

definitely try it with another PSU.

My PSU has the power cables labelled so no mistakes there. Also I stated in the OP that I tried two seperate PSUs. The fact that it all worked fine for two days then unceremoniously shut down is pointing heavily to some kind of hardware failure, I'm just trying to figure out if it was indeed the CPU.

It's not the PSU or GPU as I've reassembled them into my old build and they're working fine. I initially thought it was the motherboard, but having tested with two that seems unlikely. It could be RAM but I'm not sure on the likelyhood of two sticks failing at the exact same time.

I'm sending the CPU back to Overclockers tomorrow who have offered to test and replace as a priority when the next load come in if it is indeed failed.

Edit: Overclockers have received the CPU, tested and confirmed it's dead. I'll have to wait for the restock to finish this build now. A shame but at least now the mystery is solved.
