I suspect overall you be hard to tell the difference actually playing
its a hobby so you tell us
Benefit is next year for an upgrade again.

I'd stick with the 5800X3D till next generation Intel/AMD CPUs are out in 5 months or so.

You would maybe drop 15% performance from running a 5800X3D instead of the 7800X3D with the RTX4090

Seems it’s a lot more than 15% between the 5800X3D and 7800X3D.

Possibly is worth upgrading.

'Worth' is subjective. What you should look at is whether or not the 5800X3D is already getting enough FPS in the games you play (where you're not GPU bound) in order to hit your monitor's refresh rate cap.

As above factor in DDR5, a new motherboard, the CPU and what you might get for the 5800x3d/Motherboard/DDR4 for some (or many) the difference is a lot of money for not much improvement.
