I finally finished my new PC (specs in sig) and did some overclocking of the CPU. Got it to 4.5GHz and ran Cinebench - scored 1240 which seemed to match other people's results.

Switched the PC on today and decided to run Cinebench again for some reason, but now it only scores around 1170. I ran the test a few times and it's about the same each time.

I tried 3DMark and compared CPU scores against the same CPU at the same clocks and my score is also around 5% less than others.

Nothing changed so how come I lost 5% overnight?

This tends to happen to me on my 5960x when windows update is running in the background or my raid 1 array is thrashing.

I would check if anything is using CPU time in the background.

no two benchmark results are the same
it will either be a couple of % up or down compared to the last run

as mentioned background tasks and other things could come into play

1240 vs 1170 is meaningless imo nothing to worry about....

Thanks, I know it's barely any difference but was curious as to why.

I did some investigation this morning and I believe it was caused by Corsair Link! Got rid of that and the scores are back to normal.

Not suprising about corsair link. Driver software seens to be getting more and more bloated across the industry as manufacturers attempt to put as many features on the product page.
