Looking to upgrade to a 5820k from Phenom II 955. I've pushed my 955 to 3.9Ghz at 1.39ish volts. I get max temps of 52. How's the 5820k going to stand up with my H80i if I go about overclocking it?

Thanks for any help.

It should do ok, just don't run prime95 on it. Use rogbench for stressing. Over 4ghz-4.5ghz will be achievable with that cooler. From 1.2-1.3v is the norm at about 4.5ghz.

With that cooler It should run at about 60-70c on rogbench and about mid 50s while gaming etc. that's with the overclock so still well within limits.

Why should I not use prime95 can I ask?

It doesn't accurately represent stressing the CPU as you would normally use the PC - it just tortures the chip . Simply overclock it and use it. If it crashes, adjust the vCore or reduce the clock.

As stated above. Only software that rocketed my cpu up to 91c with a h100i, ROG bench was mid 60s! Just simply far far too torturing on a 6 core, literally could break it, it runs them that hard.

Even Intel burn is better.

Alrighty. Does make sense to be fair because temps have never reached anything like what I got on prime95 once. Happy I can keep my trusty H80i. I'll be putting some sp120 performance fans on them soon also so I reckon that'll help slightly

Can anybody shed any light on what to expect, generally, temps-wise when switching from an AMD 4core to an Intel 6core?

Well my 5960X overclocked at 4.7ghz never goes above 70 when gaming, usually much lower. Using an AIO with 4 fans and have good cooling in my case (13 fans). As long as you use a decent enough cooler they seem to run cool enough. I use Aida64 for testing.
