So my 6 month old 4890 died recently, so I sent it back, and have just been emailed saying I've had a new 5830 dispatched. Having looked at specs and benchmarks, it seems like the 5830 is slightly slower? :(

So, anyone with experience of the 2 cards, how do they compare? Am I going to have a battle on my hands to try and get something to match?

Many thanks!

It is slightly faster, but also a lot quieter, cooler, and less power hungry.

That's a good deal IMO. :)

Count yourself lucky. I sent back a dead 4890 and they wanted to replace it with a 5750.... I just politely told them where to stick it. They offered to give me a 5830 if I pay the price difference from a 5770 to the 5830. Should I battle it or take the offer? sorry for threadjacking :)

I would take it or go higher if it was on offer

Fight it, a 5750 is no where near the same performance level.

Depends of where you bought the card from. Some retailers are probably still overpricing the 5830, and if they are asking to you to pay more than £40 on top of the 5770 value for a 5830, you might as well stand you ground and tell them you will not accept anything less than a 4890 1GB or 5770 1GB.

I don't think the 5830 is as good as the 4890 at all.

Only way it is is with DX11 and how many games are fully DX11? And does DX11 really look that much better? Look at the benchmarks, the 4890 sits right between the 5830 and the 5850 until it comes to DX11...

It's not a terrible deal though....

If its the right 5830 they can have a heck of a lot of OCing room in them.
