Well After much thinking and toying with ideas what could be better then 5850 in crossfire i order the gtx 480 SOC to compare the the cards and see what is better.
This morning my gtx 480 SOC arrived. I uninstalled my my 5850's then installed the monster of a card the gtx 480!, install the latest drivers from the nvidia web site
once installed i restarted and started some benchmarking!.
My spec:
i5 760 @ 4ghz
4gb ram @1600mhz
650w antec psu
here are the results, sorry but there are no picture.
3d mark 05 Max setting,
single 5850 = 30149. 5850 in CF = 33914. GTx480 SOC = 33756
3d mark 06 Max setting,
single 5850 score = 5795. 5850 in CF = 9513. GTX 480 SOC = 9354
3d mark 11 default settings, (click on the one you want to view)
single 5850 5850 in CF GTx480 SOC
I love playing black ops and crysis both on the max setting at 1920x1080 res, here are my results from gaming.
Call of duty black ops @ 1080 res, max settings,
Single 5850 = min fps 50ish, max fps = 110ish, avg fps 80ish.
5850 in CF = min fps 70ish, max fps = 330ish, avg fps 180ish.
GTX 480 SOC = min fps 100ish, max fps 400ish, avg 190ish.
Crysis @ 1080 res, max setting
Single 5850 = min fps 15ish, max fps = 40ish, avg fps 25ish.
5850 in CF = min fps 25ish, max fps = 65ish, avg fps 41ish.
GTX 480 SOC = min fps 30ish, max fps 75ish, avg 45ish
So after much playing with both cards i can say that gtx 480 SOC is better then 5850 single and crossfire for gaming but for benchmarking the 5850 in crossfire wins but JUST!
As for temps on the gtx 460 SOC it ain't gone over 70'c and idels at 40'c.
So after all this i have to choose which one i have to keep what to sell as i have a wedding to pay for but i am going to play around some more 2night with them and
let you know how i get on but now i have got to go to work.
I hope this has help a few people.
Thanks,
Sgt T.
