I think it would be beneficial if a representative from Overclockers could make
an official thread on the expected wait times for the 58** series with regular updates.
Even if only an approximation so as to keep customers better informed and
help potential buyers to sort their build.

With the Xmas holiday fast approaching and Nvidia cards expected some time early
next year people want to know if it is worth buying now or waiting a few months.
It could be somthing as simple as:

-5850's expected wait time for pre-order: 3 weeks

for example updated as and when the situ changes.

P.s: Please dont flame me if a thread like this already exists and Ive been too senile to find it.:)

Did no one whos been waiting months for 5850's, get offered those PowerColor ones that came in the other day, as surely they should have given those people first refusal on them, see if they'd like one of those brands instead ??

If i was a new buyer i would keep my cash in my bank rather a shops bank account as it looks like pre orders are now a waste of time tbh.

What exactly is the problem with the availability of these cards anyway?

Why is there such a shortage of them?

TSMC screwed up their 40nm process somehow, despite it working flawlessly for the first half of this year. AMD hope the number of cards shipped will be in the hundreds of thousands by mid-December (it's currently in the low tens of thousands).

Most pre orders dont take payment until the card has shipped, I can't speak for OCUK I certainly hope they don't!

OCUK do. I pre-ordered mine before the price increase, so there's the silver lining.

This would be good for a thread idea, and especially if Fatboy could lock it so only he can post in it to stop all the "where am i in the queue" messages.

Has anyone been waiting longer than 3 weeks for their card?
If so I might wait out till next year.
Perhaps there will be a greater supply and prices may drop by then,
also would like to see what the competition has to offer?

i waitd for 3 weeks but got one in the end and well worth the wait , the price is more likley to go up with nvidia not forcing any competition on their new card plus vat goes up to 17.5% again so i would just pay now if i wer you :)

Realistically I would say it will be sometime in January before retail cards are available.

February-March and prices should be back to RRP's
