Short answer, yes imo.

Went from a 5850 pcs overclocked 850/1125 to a msi twin frozr ii 6950 2gb and games feel so much smoother now. The 6950 overclocks on stock volts to 900/1375 = faster than a 6970. If i bump the volts up to 1.275 i can get 1000 on the core, and 1500 on the memory and could go higher, im just afraid to atm. I think 1600 on the memory may well be possible. This is madness.

I just ran 3dmark at those settings and scored P6088 3DMarks, this puts me in the highest bracket. When i had my 5850 i was two brackets below this.

The infamous stutter in GTA IV has now gone, not to mention i can run it at the highest settings. (excluding shadows) I have to use high shadows and high night shadows otherwise the fps does drop into the 20's. But other than that never seen the fps in gta iv drop below 40. The microstutter was really bad on my 5850 but adding the 6950 has really made this terrible port of a game run like a dream.

Battlefield 3 chugged along at 40 fps on the 5850, that now runs at 60-70fps.

Anyone here at ocuk have the twin frozr ii? Or is everyone using the iii version? From what i have seen the first version seems to overclock better.

I have the iii version. But agree with mostly what you said. 6950 really does chew up BF3 nicely. I might get a second one down the line just for the extra juice, but at the moment, im really happy considering the huge FPS boost i got from my 4890 (20 - 40 fps) to my 6950 to a nice smooth buttery 60 - 70 FPS on high :).

I never realised MSI was such a quality brand. It feels exceptionally well made.

And this, whatever it means. :D

All Solid Capacitors
- 10 years ultra-long lifetime (under full load).

Hello mattbuck,

How do you overclock your MSI Twin FROZR II? Mine can only go to 840 mhz on the core clock with MSI afterburner, how do I go beyond that? I'm sure its some settings but I can't find it.

Thanks in advance!

I picked my MSI 6950 for £205 off ocuk a few weeks back with two games, seemed to good of an offer to pass up.

Like you said never really knew how well MSI made there products, since I normally go for other brands like sapphire, but I was really impressed with the cooling and build of the MSI version. :)

I use afterburner.

To enable the unofficial overclocking in this version it is necessary to edit the MSIAfterburner.cfg file located in the installation directory of AfterBurner (typically Program Files (x86) MSI Afterburner):

You need to alter the following:

Seek UnofficialOverclockingEULA field and add following text:
I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it

Set UnofficialOverclockingMode to 1 to keep PowerPlay active (may not work on old ASICs), 2 to traditionally disable PowerPlay or to 0 to temporary disable unofficial overclocking path

Then click save exit, and open up afterburner. You can now change voltage and bypass those ccc overdrive limits.

Once you have done that bump powerplay up to 20% in ccc, as you dont want your gpu throttling itself once you start to up the volts to gain a stable clock.

Nice, i got mine for £5 cheaper including delivery. I guess it was so cheap because these dont overclock, but damn they offer good value for money.

Thanks LtMatt,

Noticed you changed your name! Anyway, I heard the 6950 Twin frozr II is quieter than the Twin frozr III, hence why I bought it. My GTX260 broke so it was a necessity. I got my 6950 for £190 with Batman Arkham City, pleased with it so far.

Nice. I prefer the look of the ii model thats for sure.

Did you manage to overclock after what i said above?

I registered on the msi forum to ask them if its safe to run the card at max volts in afterburner. (1.299)

Twin frozr III is pretty quiet if you use a custom fan profile. but even at the default fan speed, it's not exactly what you'd call noisy.

Don't tempt me! I'm holding out for the next gen. I need that extra vram so badly at 1440p, but I want more grunt than the 6950 can offer. Ugh, impatience

If you do go for one of these, go for twin frozr ii 6950. ;)

Impatience indeed. I upgraded from a 5850 to a 6950 and have every intention of upgrading again if the next generation is a decent step up. Performance in Arma2 and BF3 beta is much better at 1080p and the extra grunt is critical at 1440p. I got a decent overclocker that runs very cool (with a Powercolor 'Vortex2' cooler or something). After a moderate overclock load and idle temps are only up a few degrees and it idles at 37 degrees when measured on those barmy autumn days we had recently. I overclocked on the hottest day we had recently to make sure it would be stable. ;)

Indeed.

Owning a 6950 twin frozr ii is like making love to a beautiful woman in many ways.
