Just a quick search about to anyone on here who is using a 5850 still.

I have overclocked it to 915 core clock and 1100 memory clock.

What drivers are people using? After 12.1 mine seemed to take a nose dive, before that I was mostly on Ultra with AA off, not great smoothness but playable. What settings are you using?

Sometimes as well, Afterburner seems to take the memory clock back down to 500. Do I disable Overdrive in CCC, I never bothered before.

I know I am asking a lot from this card still, but it wasn't too bad.

Thinking I may need to invest in a new card in the next couple of months.

Sorry for all the questions!!

if your on 1080pthis is still a good card . i dont know about bf3 but you can push your card a bit more , i run mine at 950/1225 when gaming with fan on 60% . at 1.2v . im using 12.1 drivers . use these settings and run furmark and if the temp dont go too high try lowering the fan speed as it is a tad loud@60% but i play fps and there quite noisy anyway . hope that helps a bit
cheers

Thanks, I run BF3 on 1900X1200 on a Dell 24" . I'll try pushing a bit harder then and test it like you said, see what happens!!!

at that res it might be the vram holding you back a tad . from what ive read bf3 likes plenty of vram

5850 is about the same as a 6850 and still a good card, don't be affraid to turn game settings down and remember there is not a single card available that can play all the games @ 1920 x1200 without slowdown...regardless of what people say around here ;)

Crank the fan and clocks up and have fun, You may well find the older drivers work better but I guess it will be trial and error !

I cranked the clocks and voltage up and it's running a lot smoother now, fingers crossed.

I think it will struggle on the larger maps, I will have to test some more :)

on high i had 30 fps a lot of time thats why i upgraded

play at med or low at 1080p youll get 60 fps constant.

That's what I meant nutella he runs@1920x1200 so may need to drop some settings for a smoother framerate

Tried out again and the screen was slow and jerky on high settings. Put down to low and a lot better. But sometimes I could run this on ultra then the next time I have to ramp down to low, I'm confused!

Out of interest what settings do people have in the CCC? Do you force everything or tick use application setings?

I had a 5850 before upgrading to a gtx 480.

I ran my 5850 at a resulution of 1900x1200 and it did well for being an old dog. I ran the settings all on high (If I ran it on ultra, it would stutter due to lack of VRAM) and it did fine. On huge maps, I rekon it use to average 50fps and it was very playable.

Same here, my FPS does drop to 35 or so at times but even that is still perfectly playable.

I have an overclocked profile on my 5850 of 890/1100 at 1.137v on my 24" 1080p monitor and it never goes above 60c on my custom fan profile. 60c means 45% fan. I have everything on high except shadows on medium with no aa motion blur and a fov of 75 normally get drops to around 45fps on my favourite caspain border map which is a pain :(. Not tried it myself but is there a real difference in graphical looks going from high to medium with a decent fps gain? Might give it a whirl now actually :D
