Could someone else with a 5850 and CSS tell me if they get white dots appearing when inside buildings please? It looks a bit like it's snowing. I get it in dust2 when in the tunnels at B/mid and near long A. Running the latest 9.12 drivers and changing any of the graphics settings in CS or CCC doesn't fix it (although I haven't tried lowering the res (1900x1200) or running in a window).

Thanks.

I think if you run in dxlevel 81/80 it will remove the white particles.

If thats what you are referring too because "white dots" might also just be artifacts. Unlikely to only occur in certain areas though.

Ahh ok thanks, that's exactly it. Strange, didn't get them on my old x1950xtx which is why I thought it was a problem. I'll have to learn to ignore them, at the moment they're very distracting.

Cheers.

It's actually an Effect they introduced for DirectX9 any card that is 9700 Pro or better will give you the same.

Its an ATI graphics card bug, on nvidia cards you wont have this problem. If you really cant stand it anymore the only solution is to change the direct x level to 8.1. However if you do stick with direct x 9.5 you do have a few advantages i.e. flashed for a shorter period of time and you can see through smokes more easily :)

Its not a bug, Its an effect !! :(

had that with my 9800GX2, HD 4850, 8800GT and X1950 XT.
So it definitely isn't a problem with the graphics card.

Ati cards do not have a certain texture dithering in their latest cards, and Nvidia kept that on there latest cards. Thats why you get the lighting bug on ati cards and not nvidia. Try playing de_nuke with an ati card on dx level 95, its very hard to see into crows. Its a bug that has been exploited in the past by some top teams, and as a result of it players using ati cards arent allowed to use dx level 95 without permission from the event admins.
