Hi Guys,

Very soon I will buying a 5850 and plan on using 3 screens. However the one's Im after (planning) are the Benq G922HDAL low resolution one's. I know that most people go after 1920x1080 but the price for each Benq is more reasonable.

But can the 5850 handle the combined res? I'm having a problem finding any useful info on the internet?

1366*768*3~3.1M pixels, 1920*1080~2M pixels, expect a 50% ish performance hit.

Remember you will have bezels breaking up your gaming space, personally one bigger (and possibly higher quality) screen is superior to three smaller ones.

With each monitor at 1366 x 768, that would be a total of 4098 x 768. The 5850 should be able to cope with that just fine, and if it's not enough for you, another 5850 in crossfire will help at that resolution.

It seriously irritates me when people who clearly have not got 3 screens make random GUESSES like this. You are guiding someone on a system where you have clearly NO experience at all on it.

3 screens is much better than a single screen. Yes you have bezels but as someone who uses them myself I can tell you FROM EXPERIENCE and not guess work that the bezels do not actually cause a problem at all. After a few minutes of play you completely forget the bezels are there.

I have also played on a large screen.. We deal with 40, 50 & 60 inch panels where I work so I have tested games on these larger screens and trust me... NON of them come close to running a decent 3 screen setup.

Another thing to note... with a single screen I have not ( apart from the 3 grand curved dell monitors ) seen a single screen that can give you a res of 5760. With this res you get the sides also in gaming.. basically you see more.. It helps trust me.

This is minbe running MW2 in 5760 res.. Show me a single screen that can give you that much FOV

Rancid Elf, you do realise he said personally? :p

I have a 3 screen setup myself but I still believe it's peoples personaly preferences plus the games you play should make your decision. Play lots of racing games and prefer higher resolution/FOV go multiple screens.

Or don't want bezels/configuring games/ don't mind a low res (1080p over a 50" or so) then get a bigger screen :)

As for the OP your card should be able to run the lower resolutions fine for now but over the next six months you may need an extra card or an upgrade. If you like playing all your games on MAX with huge AA then you would need a better card but if you don't mind turning down some settings then the 5850 should be fine :)

Indeed he did but that must in this instance be based on his personally experience of 3 screen to make judgement because the difference is to vast to go on just theories.

The fundamental is the aspect ratio & not the size which is something that far to many fall into.

You don't have to see personally a LCD with 20ms response time to know that its going to give a smeary ghosty performance.

not really,

I went from 1 1080p (2Mpixel) 21.5" screen on dirt2 bench @ 85fps-115fps to 3 x 1152p 23" screens (7Mpixel) @ 45-58fps.. yes i lowered two setting, which was crowd off and post process to medium (as i hate all the extra bloom and stuff)

sp not 50% just @ just 1 more megapixel :) in fact you will be able to run high settings

with bezel comp i run around 7,445,000 pixels

the reason is game devs have all the action on scripted towards the center screen, most of the top part of any game is sky so goes the same for three screens

I have 5850 sapphire 775/1125

btw i noticed more about gfx settings and performance and i noticed bezels in portrait. in landscape with a thin bezel monitor + some overlap you literally don't notice.

the funny thing is its not even the point. the point is, you game on the center, but your peripheral vision sees the sides and yes occasionally you look at the whole scene as a wide open world image.

seen as your gaming in the center and only using the edge screens for perception there is no bezels.

my bezels are just 2cm! hardly anything anyways.

you must realise though

1. card will run hotter and faster always, even on desktop its a notch higher
2. power usage is greater £££
3. takes a while to setup and get used too
4. games can be reduced to low settings (dirt2 not bad..metro and crysis have to be on lower settings of course)

5. crossfire is desirable

edit* 3 screens produce heat also ;)

1. ATI drivers will correct this at some point (for some people it is already corrected)
2. only as long as 1 is not fixed
3. true but well worth the perseverance
4. sometimes true, games like COD4 still run maxed out and with a 5870 Crysis runs pretty good most settings on high, BC2 all settings high, etc.
5. yes plz *droooool*

lucky you i have MW2 and its stretched on my eyefinity every time they update the game they ruin the wide screen fixer patch :(

dunno about cod4 though

let me say eyefinity makes you want to turn on the pc and buy new games to try it out, and try all the older ones also  a lot better

those who knock, haven tried it or haven't got it setup right

its just impressive, 7mpixel x 30 frames is 210million pixels rendered every second ! at 50-60 your near 400Million every second let alone all the other stuff like physics
