Powerplay is causing havoc, everytime it steps up/down in normal windows or in game, all screens flash.

I'm not using EyeFinity, I need the three screens for serious work, if it can't be rock stable in windows, it's going back.

ATI Catalyst 9.12, Windows Vista x64, MSI 5850 OC edition.

This flickering is ridiculous.

Survey done.

That multi-screen flickering is impossible. Card is going back tomorrow. Roll on Fermi.

Only happens when overclocked, the powerplay gets messed up.
Flash it with a BIOS to change the 2D clocks.
Or use AMD GPU tool to up one MHZ to set it to 3D clocks.

I've not overclocked it, but I guess MSI did.

It's OC by default in the MSI OC firmware (725MHz, 1100MHz), I tried setting the clocks to the normal 5850 clocks, it only got worse.

Tried all sorts of things, after an evening of not being able to fix it, it's going back.

Card has been refunded. Sorry but I don't want to be messing around with flashing firmware and voiding warranty. If the card doesn't work out of the box, it's not fit for purpose.

Regretted my impatience, will continue to wait on Fermi now. I was disappointed that Fermi only has two outputs, I need three for professional application, I will make do with Fermi + my low power 8400GS.

I had this before with 4870's and also returned them. Understand just how annoying it is.

Oddly though, I recently acquired 2 more 4870's (one for me and one for other half) which do not exhibit this problem at all.

Yeah, probably a bad batch from MSI or ATI drivers in combination with that OC'd MSI; either way the flickering was fairly constant, enough to drive me insane!!!
