I've had this rig since 2010, been experiencing issues with the GPU for months. It randomly starts spinning fast/loud and sometimes they'll be artifacts on the screen.
Temps seem to be running ok and nothing is clocked.

  • i3 ~clock
  • zalmon cooler
  • corsair 650w
  • Corsair 1 x 2GB Ram
  • 23" ips
  • 18" acer lcd (recent)
  • asus mobo
  • 5 HDDs

Is there anything i can attempt to fix it or... would it be best to replace the card?

If so what would be the best low-end card i can find for image editing, browsing etc nothing too intensive. (new or secondhand)
I plan on upgrading to a laptop in a few anyway.

what board h55? use the igpu?

tried downclocking the 5850's memory by 200mhz,then see if it still crashes

could try removing the cooler and cleaning the old paste/blow out the dust from the heatsink,re apply some new thermal paste

cheap used 5770 would do you till you get your laptop

Its the H55M-UD2H. I'm not using igpu. Downclocked the mem, i'll remove the heartsink and clean it out see if that helps. If it still fails i'll consider the 5770, thanks
