Looking to get a ATI card for a change just to se what there like had nvidia upto now , so how much better is the 4870 compared to the 5850

Looking at the res and CPU a 5850 would suit best, I think you may be bottlenecked by the CPU if you got a 5870. Are you able to overclock the Q8300 any further?
