Hi

My dad's system is 4 years old - i&920, 6GB RAM, 5850, Windows 7. Its been working fine, but has developed a bit of a graphical glitch over the past 3 months. Small black squares keep appearing at random (see attached image)

There doesn't seem to be any pattern to them. Just about the only way I can consistently reproduce them is to show photos as a slide show screen saver, although they can appear in any software that he uses.

I've just done a DDU clean and then reinstalled the latest (official) drivers. The GPU temps are 35C increasing to the mid 70s under load.

Any other suggestions or is it looking like the end of the road for the graphics card?

Cheers

He rarely plays games, maybe some Filght Sim. He hasn't noticed the black squares anywhere else. Bizarrely if you go to change the screen saver, the preview window displays the black squares but you can't see them anywhere else on the screen. When they appear in Chrome, they are just in the window that Chrome has opened in.

I ran the Heaven benchmarking software half a dozen times and noticed the black squares once, just as the program was loading.

I don't have another graphics card to try (which would be the next logical step I suppose)

It's not looking promising tbh
