5850 upgrade - spec me?

Hey all,

The time has come to replace my two 5850's as I find them somewhat limiting at times. Crossfire is also a royal pita! Would I be mad to consider a 290x? They are still available at £269 elsewhere.... or should I go team green?

I would wait a few days to see how the GTX970 and GTX980 perform first.

Crossfire has come on a long way since the 58xx series.

A 290(X or non-X) would give you a big boost. Nothing wrong with going NV if you fancy it either.

I'm not sure which way to go, just want some more Vram and never to touch crossfire again Ideally should perform faster than my 5850's in crossfire but I realise that may be a tall order?

Probably worth waiting for 980 release just to see how it affects prices across the board
