Hi guys, I have an Asus EAH5850 with voltage tweaking.

Over a fresh install of W7 64bit I popped on Asus's latest own catalyst driver then OSDgamer and then SmartDoctor.

Ive looped vantage a few times to check stability and base score, all looks good but Im struggling to get fallout 3 gotye to run at all.
After a good bit of investigation and many attempts to sort the random crashes I belive Asus's OSDgamer and SmartDoctor apps maybe causing the problem as people have documented this.

I'm not all to impressed with smartdoctor, although it looks like it does the trick it doesnt seem the most robust of apps.

I belive MSI's afterburner to be the preferred app for over volting these ati cards. I downloaded the latest version off MSI, once installed the instant I run the app it blue screens my system! :(

I was under the impression afterburner works very well with these Asus cards, could it be because I have still got Smartdoctor running

I hope there is someone out there that maybe able to help.

Im just looking for a method of voltage contol that will not cause games to crash out.

Cheers :)

I ditched smart doctor. Afterburner is all you need. Sd kept going funny on me like upping the voltage to max for some unknown reason and making the card run really hot. No such problems with AB, 850core 1150 mem on 1.1 volts :)

Yeah, AB is great except i found the custom fan profile although enabled, Would only run @ 21%, Even though my GPU was hitting 60C, Just keep an eye on that.

It may just be unique to me though.

I've heard someone also mention that fan control isn't great with AB, but that's the only bad comment.

I will be watercooling the card so fan control will not be needed.

This is why I really want voltage control (went with the Asus card) as I wont be limited by the stock cooler so will be able to safely push the voltage quite high.

Ok, so AB really should work fine with my Asus card (with its unlocked bios) then?
Anyone have any idea why my system blue screens when AB is executed??

Thanks for your help guys :)

You probably just knocked auto fan off in your profile, easily done as the indicator is not very big making it hard to see if it's on or off.

every time my pc starts it defaults to CCC's fan control, which is on manual when afterburner is controlling using a custom profile. I think its because ab loads first and then CCC. I have to load up ab then uncheck and recheck "user define" and then AB's fan profile kicks back in. Maybe thiss is the prob your having cesar? Is there any way to change boot order?

So unlike smart doctor you can use any of the latest catalyst drivers with AB??

lukext, I've just noticed your running an Asus card and it sounds like you have no issue running AB.
Which version are you running buddy? also what os are you on?

So really AB should work with my Asus card it would seem, just need to figure out why it blue screens every time AB is launched.

im running win 7 64 bit and afterburner v1.5.0. Yeh its all running fine bar the minor inconvienience of having to uncheck and recheck "userdefine" for the fan. its not a blue screen by any means though.... :S

ok cool, thanks for the reply lukext.

I'll try completely un-installing Asus's gamerOSD and SmartDoctor along with Asus's own catalyst driver which I put on. Then download the latest catalyst 10.3 driver from the ati site and see if i can get AB running correctly.

Failing that I guess I'll have to reinstall the OS again.
