Morning all happy easter :D im looking to start overclocking my new 5850 shown below
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-215-AS&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=411

That was a couple of things i was not to sure on, can i tweak the voltage on this card using MSI Afterburner and if so how, also what is the default voltage for the card and the max voltage, its just i saw on the front of my box that you can tweak the voltage on it but there was now guide or software included showing me how.

I heard you can overclock these cards to 5870 speeds of 850/1200 (i think thats 5870 speeds correct me if im wrong) would you see noticable performance increase in OC the card in most games playing just cause 2 at the mo and get a steady 45-50fps.

Thanks everyone

I have an Asus 5850 and use MSI Afterburner w/o any issues. The GUI is easy to use, simply use the sliders to select Voltage, Core Clock and Memory Clock. Stock volts for this card are 1.08v. I haven't used the ASUS software as I read MSI was superior.

I have mine OC'd to 950/1250 using 1.2v. You can also set up a fan profile using Afterburner to help with temperatures, very easy to do.

Temperatures are 30~ idle and on full stress test never hit 70. A 5 hour session of BFBC2 will only see my temps rise to 55~.

Below are my results from both 3DVantage and Heaven v2.0.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks mate thats helped a lot nice results you have there, did you have vsync enabled when you ran the tests cos you have quite high fps there :)

My temps on stock seem to be good i have set up a fan profile so when i hit 50c it goes to 40% and so far i idle at 34c and underload with just cause 2 with settings on high its never touched 50c, i understand overclocking it and upping the voltage will cause it to run warmer, do you know how far you can push a 5850 on stock voltage?

No problem :)

I don't believe vsync was on when I ran the benchmarks. Will have to see what difference is made with it enabled.

As for maximum on stock volts, I havn't tested it personally but have read some people have managed 800/1200.

Good luck!
