Dear Overclockers,
I have come across a strange issue with my 5870.
I recently noticed quite high temperatures in GPU-Z so I decided to change the TIM. Opened up the card and noticed the Thermal stuff on top of the VRMs looked like it was totally rough and almost gone.
I still had a small Thermal Pad strip laying around so I decided to replace it.
Overall temperatures have been improved significantly except for GPU Temp #3, see the image below:
Does anybody know which part of the 5870's board this sensor belongs to? Board layout:
VRMs are on the right, not sure what the chip on the top left is, it's not my picture.
I have tried reseating the card and applying a thinner layer of TIM, neither seemed to help.
Any help or suggestions on how to fix this issue are welcome, it's really doing my head in.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. I'm also looking for a place to buy new Thermal Pads, seems hard to find, does anybody know?
