CPU: i7 860 @ stock (2.8ghz).
RAM: 4GB 1600
MOBO: Gigabyte P55-UD4
GPU: ATI HD5870
PSU: Corsair HX620
Windows 7 64 bit.

So the problem I'm having is my pc suffers constant lockups/crashing where the screen wil turn grey with lines or just black or even white, when this happens there is also a horrible sound in my headphones, it sounds like horrible screeching. This happens particularly while watching videos that use flash player, or playing games. It also occurs on webpages just while browsing. I also suffer from the problem where my mouse cursor will get 10x larger at random.

I've done tons of googling and there are other people with the same problem, but alas, I cannot find a solution.

Things I've tried:

1) Updated catalyst from 9.10 to 9.11(beta) and then to 9.11 - does not help.

2) Updated BIOS version from F2 to F3. This fixed the mouse cursor problem completely, but still recieve crashing.

3) Tried formatting PC. After the format, I still recieve crashes in flash player, but it generally takes about 2 weeks before I see random crashes while browsing webpages or crashes in games/lockup/sound loop.

My question is: From what I have described above, is this a problem with hardware/drivers or maybe software on my pc maybe ?

I've tried every fix people mentioned while googling, but none fixed the crashing, is there anything else I can try before I take my PC back to the store ?

Thanks.

i've had mine crash while using adobe after effects CS 3 but it recovers fine apart from crashing my work on after effects and I lose it all!

That PSU is more than enough for two 5870s.

Maybe something getting corrupted if problem always gets worser after some time from "fresh start"...

But trying other card in that PC and testing that card in other PC would be also sensible.

i had the same problem with lines and grey ****ness all over my screen crashing it out , dude told me my psu wasnt powerful enough yet i told him it took it full wack on big games .... the card is in RMA atm anyway for another reason haha .

Ok, I'm just going to double check motherboard settings with someone from Gigabyte to make sure its not a voltage problem like some people here suggested.

Otherwise Ill just take it back to the store.
