5870 crossfire

I am about to buy my 2nd 5870. My current card is the asus voltage tweak and i see there are cheaper cards than this one so can i combine a saphire one as well or is it generally best to stick to 2 of the same?

You can combine with any 5870, bare in mind that non reference models may not clock well as your current card so your clocks speed will be limited to the slowest clocked card, but with it being xfire I very much doubt you will need to clock high.

With ati, you can crossfire with any brand and you can also crossfire your 5870 with a 5970 or 5850.

the gains of crossfiring 5870s are not worth the outlay

You'll be lucky to get 280 for it. 200 to 225 seems to be the current price point.

If you can down that route your just asking for problems TBH, you get enough issues with multiple video card setups as it is let alone trying to run 3 cards.

If you want to buy another HD5870 for Crossfire then I would suggest the Asus Model simply because they offer a 3 year warranty and the v2 has a better cooling solution.

Back to the topic...I agree with people that says wait for HD6000 series. After seeing so many people having issue with multi-GPU set up, I don't think it's worth the risk on playing russian roulette on Crossfire/SLI and think it's best to consider single GPU fast card instead. That's probably the main reason why the GTX480 are selling like hot cakes at the moment.
