At my PC
Hi guys,
I'm on my 3rd 5870 now, only just got this fresh RMA like last week, most of which I've not been at home for most of.

I tried BFBC2 last night, and it quite happily started playing, fine frame rate, card seemed quiet, so I assume the temps were fine, (testing on Furmark and Unigine seemed fine) but after the first round ended, the second game loaded up (switching on the same map from attack to defend) and artifacts galore suddenly appeared...

I got a little ****ed at this so closed the game, and checked out unigine and furmark, both of which seemed fine, played some AvP (2010) on dx11, seemed fine. went back to BFBC2. Once again, first game was great, came to the end of the round, and it didn't get beyond the stats. 2D artifacting was all over the place, and CTD. Back on the desktop, my start bar had disappeared. I attempted to reload it by running explorer from the task manager (a task which seemed very difficult in comparison to what it should) but it would only load my documents.

I tried turning off my PC and using the secondary PCI slot, but I got similar results. Unigine, AvP and Furmark all seem fine, BFBC2 working great for 1 round and breaking horribly after that.

I've since moved back to the first slot (better airflow) and wonder if its a known bug or something? I've tried playing the single player, but it seems fine... any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!

few more quick bits of info,
Thought I'd try ruling out other components, so ran Prime 95 for a few tests, and came up with nothing, ruling out my CPU, and a memtest came up with nothing either.

Tried uninstalling my AMD drivers, loading safe mode, driver sweeper, reinstall and reboot, didn't help.

Just tried a game online of AvP too, as opposed to the single player I've been testing and it seems to artifact and freeze, but manages to save itself before a CTD.

The first time I had an issue from the moment I got the card, where playing videos through any program that used the card for acceleration would cause my PC to have a fit, and the second started heavy artifacting in games, making them juddery and unplayable and eventually crashing my whole system.

So I tried a re-format. I installed Windows and the applicable drivers, then Battlefield. I copied a backup over after installing from the disc, to save time in patching. I loaded the game and it seemed to be fixed. It played 4/5 rounds no trouble. I started reinstalling other programs, Steam, VLC, Office etc.

I copied over a backup of Steam to save downloading the 120~GB and went through loading them all up to have the resources all sorted for them all, however after doing this, I went back to battlefield, which has now started to do the same problem again. Surely something in my Steam list is causing the issue?

So I've made a proper backup of all the games using Steam's own backup tool, and went through the games one by one deleting all the local files. Tried Battlefield again, no luck. Tried restoring to the furthest point back I could, no luck. Thinking of reformatting again. Any other suggestions on the table?

If your BC2 is not from Steam try exiting steam before playing.

Also when installing lots of games you get loads of Microsoft Visual C++ in your program list maybe one of them is conflicting with the one that BC2 uses?

You say your steam games are backed up? Try re downloading the games from steam, it could be within that backup where the issue lies.

I've memtested my RAM, and I've tried removing possibly conflicting C++ Redist. still getting the issues. Starting to think that I've be sent a slightly duff card.

event logs show graphics drivers crashing and resetting at the times when I have been testing. Have tried older drivers (10.4) and still getting the issue.

Would the event logs be enough Proof for OCUK to accept an RMA. I can't seem to cause issue in the tests they would normally run really

You haven't had 3 faulty GFX cards, the problem is elsewhere.. that's 100%

You need to monitor ALL temps and 12v rail..

You have given Us next to nothing to work with, but I'll take a Stab ;) Set Your Cpu clocks to Stock or lower and try it.

Sounds very much like it's Steam related if it was working fine before you installed Steam, are you using the Beta Steam?

He's running his CPU at stock, as he mentioned further up the thread.
