Hi

first hello, this is my first post, but unfortunately not a good one.
i finally got my new build from overclockers after a 2 month wait for a ati 5870. Installed the system all seemed fine until i loaded the ati drivers from the disc. I seem to be getting dots that seem to from a square on my screen. The strange thing is games dont seem to be too bad but they still appear. Also it seems to be getting worse. Do you guys have any ideas to the problem?

My system is:

Intel i7 processor
6gb ram
gigabyte ex58 motherboard
sapphire ati 5870 graphics card

Welcome mate :)
Like Grimley said, have you downloaded the latest drivers with the hotfix, they have sorted "some" problems out with the new 5*** series.

Also, have you double checked all of the dvi etc wires are in properly? Might sound stupid but worth a try.

Next, you could re-seat the graphics card, as sometimes that causes problems. Although, make sure the power connectors running to the card are fully stable on the card.

Lastly, try doing a clean install of windows, then download the latest drivers straight after. If any of these idea's don't work, sounds like an RMA job to me. Good luck.

if that doesn't work it could be down to the card overheating. you can check the card temps in CCC. Try using the Pc with the side panel off. If that doesn't work the card may be faulty & will need to go back to be checked. I'd send the shop a webnote or post in the customer service forum.

Looks knackered unfortunately, check the card voltages and motherboard voltages are correct. Reseat the card, clear the cmos, check for motherboard bios update

bad news that mate, i would RMA is asap. Had a 6800GTO few years ago that had the same thing and it was fooked.

hi thanks for all your quick replys,

i have installed the newer drivers from the ati website, it seems to have solved the issue in windows but playing games they still appear. Also i seem to be getting white lines and stuff in crysis and lines in l4d2. I have tried to capture a screenshot but they only last a split second

there is a white triangle on the gun, but it is a lot worse.

Im on a clean install on windows 7. I also thought it might be a heat problem but i have the sides off the case and temps on the card are around 40 - 50C.

Its looking like i am going to have to RMA it, which is quite annoying seeing how long ive waited for this card. its alsomy first time with ATI card, i have had nvidia before and they have been faultless.

and did you try hotfix drivers?

it might also be a power issue or a harddrive issue, can you test with a diffrent PSU and harddrive?

Hi i did try the hotfix but i didnt make any difference.

I have however this morning plugged it into my work computer. And after a stress test with furmark. it has exactaly the same issues with artifacts in the furmark benchtest and the strange square pixels in windows. The Max temp was 71C which should be ok?

anyway i posted my findings due to i sent a link to this thread on a RMA Webnote.

Thanks all that posted
