5870 - random extreamely low fps for a few seconds in games (driver issue?)

Hi,
I got my 5870 with cat 9.12 beta drivers

Some games randomly for a few seconds go imensly low fps then really quick a few seconds later, making the game run too fast, then returning to normal.

Have you heard of this exact problem??
I have had no other problems. It did it in mw2 but 9.12 seemed to fix it. (could have been chance)
But it now does it in dirt 2. Does this mean that the 9.12 did not fix the problem for mw2? Or could the beta drivers just have helped on cod6?

I want to be sure it is a driver problem before voiding the warranty installng a gpu block.

If you run folding at home it does have the habit of opening and becoming invisible - check your processes

there are not many out. I will try though. I am running Windows 7 (x64)

I think win 7 starts from about 9-10 I believe, don't quote me, I m on vista 64bit

I m not upgrading to win7 till next year, on purpose

Have you tried the DiRT2 hotfix (9.11) drivers? Reports have been very mixed concerning the 9.12 betas.

i installed the 9.11 hotfix on the 9.12betas
no luck! Might try with the 9.11 in a bit

does this happen only on dirt 2?? It is quite reassuring to find another with the problem, indicates a driver issue. Appantely, many people get 5870s to work after reinstalling the os and making sure your reinstall isnt the rc windows 7.

the only game i have noticed in other than dirt 2 is need for speed shift but does it less.

think i will wait for the 9.12's to arrive and if it still does it may try a os / driver fix, i don't fancy a win7 total re-install, i will try an older driver before going that far.

cod4mw2 is smooth as hell, as is every other game i recently bought inc borderlands.
