5870 settings and BFBC2

and i thought its just me, i got hbao turned off and everything maxed out. Occasionally i get a 1-2 second lag. It just stutters and then its fine. I'm used to it now. I got a 5870, it does seem to depend on server

Running 5850 at stock now, everything maxed out, HBAO off, AAx4, medium shadows (dunno if the last one makes a difference or not). As smooth as it gets, little to no tearing (76Hz refresh rate, Vsync off), over 9000 fps in most areas.

I get the server lag too.

I run it at 2048x maxed out with AA on my 4870 512MB so I can't see how you're having problems with a 5870!

Sure I get the odd stutter and some slowdown when it's really manic but for >90% of the time it's smooth as silk.

I'm pretty certain on what's causing the slowdown.

I've been playing most of the day with FRAPS running and was getting insane framerate dips.

I killed FRAPS for the last 3 hours and have no slowdowns whatsoever.

Try it, I think this is the solution.

I used to get this,
its a driver issue,

10.4a and 10.5 are the best I'll try and find you the links. All you got to do is uninstall via ati uninstall.exe then run driver sweeper, then install the drivers.

Dont worry, i used to think it was a problem, now that its fixed im loving bc2 ! :D

http://www.fileshack.com/file.x/18350/ATI+Catalyst+10.4a+Preview+Driver+-+Windows+7+&+Windows+Vista is what i have used, no problems with them at all.

hope this helps, but i'm sure it will as i used to get the exact problem

My rig is below. XFX 5870. Not overclocked at all as the fan was going mental when I did.

I can max all the settings on mine, everything turned on at 1920x1080 on my Benny Q monitor. I do have V-Sync on as I don't like tearing so it will only go to 60 FPS, but it stays there. Never dips below. Recently updated to the 10.9 drivers from 10.4 and it is the same.

The game is very CPU intensive and to be fair, am not clued up on your chip at all so don't know if that is bottlenecking it?

My Phenom X 4 965 is OC'd to a whisper under 4Ghz.

My cpu is plenty fast for BFBC2... after overcloking it from 3 to 3.7 I can feel that I have lifted the bottleneck significantly...

Games load in a jiffy... Im generally first in to games too, so the system is not bottlenecking the game...

Its either drivers or server lag... (hdd is completly defraged...)

It wouldnt be my hdd causing the slowdown....

If some people mention that an ssd makes no difference surely it cant be my hdd..

I also get tearing with out vsync on... (tearing signifies Im getting over 60fps?? (max of monitor))

I'd heard that it was Punkbuster taking screenshots to check for cheating. Not sure how true that is, though.

Rich

Hmm, that is something I have overlocked.....

However if it is punk buster taking screen shoots, then the service isnt doing a very good job, becuase the cheats are not getting caught.

Also it should not be causing slowdown either.... it doesnt on MW2...

Had one dude the other day, with about 80 kills, when every one else was on a max of about 20!

I would be confident to say that a 5850 with your setup should be able to max out BFBC2?

It does indeed max out with high framerates. However, I don't notice much difference between shadows on medium/high and HBAO is rather unnecessary for online gameplay. I don't have it overclocked any more, it's not worth the noise even though I'm using headphones. 4xAA but I also use Edge Detect which effectively makes it 8xAA I would think?

Noisey eh? I must be one of the lucky ones, as my 5870 is the quitest card I have ever owned!

My case fans are far louder, than my gpu.

My old 3870x2 was a powerhouse........... of noise!

I have a weak airflow in my case, 5850 gets pretty hot if overclocked thus I had to use 37-45% fan speed which is a bit on the noisy side. Bear in mind the rest of my components are almost silent at full load meaning that the GPU is the only noisy factor at that fan speed. I don't like the GPU heating above 75-80c at load thus not overclocking is the easiest solution for me atm. I just don't need that power at all. Still, the noise could not be heard over speakers or headphones, it's just annoying enough that it's there.

I dont know why but for some reason, a small part of me thinks I should have gone for the gtx 470.....

Having been with ATI for about 4 years straight...... aTI dont seem to deliver performance drivers half as much as Nvidia do...

(Of course I am happy with my card, becuase I bought it for its silent performance and thats what I got....)

I did fancy a change this time around, but based on my noise requirments, andthe fact I had a crossfire only mobo, it made sense for ATI to be the purchase.
