5870 temp

had my 5870 (XFX AVP)model for a few months now but not monitored the temps, the last couple of weeks it's been revving up (the fan i mean) during certain games,
the usual FAR CRY2,MW2,CRYSIS,BC2.

I've got the fan set to 40-50% while gaming,any higher and the noise drives me mad,anyway while playing these games I'm getting 90-92c at 100% load
is this normal or should i get a VGA cooler (been looking at ARCTIC COOLER ACCELERO EXTREME).

That is way too hot for a 5870 at those fans speeds, thats more like a GTX 480 temp.

Take the card out of PC and see if any dust is on the fan that might be the cause but i doubt it if its only a few months old

there's no dust,i clean the inside every 6-8 weeks, (compressed air and vacuum)the whole case(sad but true) I've even got 2 extra fans blowing directly onto the GPU and
mobo,inside case is normally about 26c,I'm using GPU-Z and ATI overdrive.
case is a CM cosmos S.

The above cooler will sort out any issues you have regarding noise and heat

40-50% fan while gaming is just too low m8, is it a referance cooler on it?
even my vapour X's spin up to 70%+ on auto settings and still reaches high 80's C
