I have been looking at going crossfire but seem to prefer the option of a single card, and today seeing the gtx480 going for a good price I am wondering if the 480 is a faster card than the 5870 taking into consideration that my 5870 only clocks to 870,so it is not a card for overclocking for me.

Selling the 5870 and then getting the 480 would probably mean a cost of around £40 if that, if I got lucky on the sale

would £40 quid or abouts be a good deal

Cheers

At £200, I would suggest another 5870 for Crossfire. The GTX480 is about 10-15% faster than a 5870, but is much hotter and power hungry. Two 5870s will be faster than any single card solution.

Or, as Raven said, wait for a little bit and see what the year brings. There are already rumours of an AMD rehash of the 6 series coming relatively soon
