Looking to order a 5870 tomorrow and just wanted to clarify a couple of things:
1. Is is just the the MSI and Asus cards that comes with the utilities to tweak the voltage on the cards, though you can flash the Asus bios on other cards (as long as its a reference model with volterra chips?) to allow this to happen as well. If using the MSI software there is a key you can change to enable unsupported overclocking and do the same and bypass limits? Both of these methods will work on all reference cards? I know the Asus rev2 has a voltage tweak utility too, is this different from the "normal" one?
2. Is it a case of pretty much a custom cooler will mean its non reference? I want to get a reference card as there is a specific EK waterblock I want to use and they don't make a v2 that looks the same.
3. if the above two are correct, then that would mean any card with the stock cooler can be overvolted and the card i choose will just depend on bundled goods/warranty? or can you get non reference PCB's with reference coolers?
Cheers guys
