5870 Without Shroud

Hi All!

I have a Radeon 5870 and the plastic shroud has broken off so its just the heatsink and fan on there. Will it be safe to run it like this permanently or will it be a case of fitting an aftermarket cooler? If so which ones do you recommend?

Without the shroud the air won't be directed through the fins properly, so I imagine it won't work very well. Never tried it, though

Thanks I guess it would be worth replacing the cooler with an aftermarket one then. Not really sure which are any good though.

The Arctic Accelero Mono Plus apparently fits the 5870. I'm always concerned about VRM cooling on those coolers though.

To be honest with you I'd run it and monitor temps without changing the cooler, in reality the 5870 is an old card by todays standards and you'd be better off replacing it than fitting an aftermarket fan
