5870M - Graphics drivers not picking up the card

Hello,

Got my new laptop on saturday, woohoo!

Installed the drivers from the CD no problem (MSI), and noticed they were 10.1 drivers! Obviouslly wanting to update these I downloaded the ones from the ATI website. The card works fine with 10.1's, but obviouslly any performance increase through new drivers is something I'd want!

Upon installation, they do not pick up the card, have tried 10.12/10.11, and 10.12's from the guru3d website, when it asks you what components you want to install it doesn't even give me the option of 'ATI Display Driver', it just has 'ATI Install Manager' which is weird.

Am i missing something? OR could the card be dud?

Downloaded drivers (10.12);http://img88.imageshack.us/i/installation.png/ < no Display drivers appearing (happens on multiple drivers)
MSI Disc drivers (10.1); http://img220.imageshack.us/i/installationmsi.png/ < DIsplays drivers appearing

Laptop is a GX660R, have looked far and wide for this laptop with this issue, even posted on the MSI website to absolutely no avail, so I figure it may be a card specific issue as opposed to the laptop as a whole.

Much appreciated,
TommyV

The driver you downloaded, doesnt seem to contain the display driver, which is the core element.

As far as I know when you go to the ATI driver page here:

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Choose:

Notebook Graphics

Mobility Radeon Series

Mobility Radeon HD 5xxx Series

Then either win7 x64
or the 32 bit variety

But from my own experience I have had nothing but issues with laptops and gpu.

Most of the time, the laptop gpu isntconsidered the same as a desktop gpu.

A desktop gpu gets updates to the drivers, the laptop gpu doesnt always and may only have a single driver....

You could alwasy send ATI an email, its a bit long winded, but some one eventually will rely to you.

Thanks for the response mate.

I tried the 10.12 'display driver' only file, which was 55mb or so, got exactly the same issue.
I'll have to try MSI/ATI otherwise, argh!!

Anyone else know of or have had this issue? Or a link where I can download 10.12 'notebook' display driver only file? The ati website doesn't appear to have it like the desktop drivers section does on their site.
