I have just finished a new build for uni. New everything except graphics card (using an old ati atm).

I was wondering should I go for ATI's latest card or wait a month or two longer for nvidia's new card?

I am thinking of waiting as I have my heart set on a BFG (reason: they did an oc2 8800GTX and to this day is a beast, running crysis, crysis warhead and far cry 2 on full as smooth as out).

However, I would value some other opinions. Thanks in advance.

if you arent in a hurry, might as well wait
a bit of competition will drive down the prices and nvidias offering may surprise performance wise

im kinda doing the same thing, waiting it out, if you can wait then why not, it will surely get you a better deal in the end

if you need the new card within 3 months id just go ahead and buy a 5870/50. id wait if u can thou.
Ill be keeping my 4890 untill an upgrade is needed.

I m waiting it out, as I wanna try out Nvidia again like the old days :) but I ll get what ever is best for my budget

if you can't wait, than go ahead its a great card, if you can than do it

I think waiting is definitely the best option for you. Not necessarily as a means to get an nVidia graphics card but so some competitive price wars can give you the best deal! ;D

The 8800 is a fantastic card even to this day so it should suffice for the next few months.

I purchased the cheapest 4870 expecting to change it for an ATI 5850. If you want to see what Nvidia has to offer later on, then i suggest you wait.

Isn't it always down to; can you afford it? and if you can when do you have the need/desire to upgrade?

I have ordered the HIS 5870. I am sure in a months time there will be 5870's with factory overclocked options, better coolers, and the X2 version. But you can wait for the nvidia card and ATI may release a new one 2 days later.

If you want one now, get this one. Nvidia still haven't indicated exactly when theirs will be released. You may be waiting more than a month.

Just my 2p worth

Don't wait, worse move i ever did waiting, i waited(now nearly 3 months) for these new ATI cards, now they out, most places aint got them in stock. It will be at least 2 more weeks, before i finally order what i want, the 5870 is so overpriced, that im now having to settle for a 5850(which will do me).

I could wait for new Nvidia cards, not because i'll get one, as they overpriced junk anyway, but because price of ATi cards will fall, but then a month later probably have new cards out.

Do not wait. Trust me, get what you want and enjoy it, then look in a years time about upgrading.

myself i would wait as you got a 8800gtx but on the other hand if they only going to drop my 30 in the next 6 months you could have 6 months with 5***,it is down to you if your card handles everything then you can wait for dirt2 or something that will use dx11 in someway

Only problem with the new Nvidia cards will be the price, i would guess £350 for the chepest part, could easy be £400 or £500 depending on the benchmarks. Hate to think what the 395 pricing would be lol, mabe same as mars :p.

Nvidia need to watch their prices. Soon enough, they will have prices that can relate to a full AMD or Intel, ATI system, technically the Mars fits that category.

no point keep waiting & waiting. people say wait for the 5800 series and now they here people say wait for the G300 series , whats next? wait for 6800 series?

i say just what u can afford now and enjoy it... life is to short to keep waiting.

For the price they will be, i will class them as junk, unless they under £300 mark, which we all know has no chance of being.

That's a bit of a daft thing to say, given that we have no idea of their performance yet.

You would still consider them junk if they were twice the speed of a 5870 and retailed for £350 on release?

Unlikely to happen I admit, but drawing conclusions about their worth before we even have a solid idea of a spec is just plain silly.
