My Ryzen 9 5900x might be toast, and given the current DDR5 price insanity I don't really want to upgrade to an AM5 system right now. I'll need a replacement for this machine (x570s Tomahawk Max, 3080TI). I no longer do any video editing etc on this PC so it's purely for gaming and 3D modelling.

A straight replacement 5900x is on pre-order with OCUK, but I can't really wait all that much. I could source elsewhere for a similar price of around £250.

Seems there are a lot of recommendations for the 5700x3d, but that's out of stock everywhere (Possibly end of life?) so that's likely not an option.

The 5800x is currently on a steep discount with OCUK so feels like that may be the best choice, any thoughts?

Whatever you can get second hand and what kind of deals are available will determine your best option really.

If you can hold out AM4 chips do go cheaply on the MM (esp. non-X3D), but what OC are offering on the 5800X is likely to be the best you'd get new assuming stock comes in.

It would be a downgrade from 5900X but it depends between getting up and running / performance / price.

As kaku said, if those 5800x come back in stock at £140, that's almost certainly the best you'll do new.

If you're ok with second hand, the last 5950x on the MM went for 180 collected and that was back in Feb, so you might find one cheaper now.
If you don't mind a bit of a downgrade, 3600 have gone as cheap as £25 and 3700X I'm pretty sure have gone for £45 or less

(If you can't access the MM at the moment, you should just need 15 posts over 90 days to qualify)

I got a 5800x for £125 at weekend cause my 5950x died. Looked at 2nd hand 5950x and such and they were up a lot more for those that had them so yeah worth looking for a 5800x id say in short term.

If you have access to the members market, you should be able to to pick up something there, I would have sold you my 5800X for a fair price via there but ...I gave it a friend to replace is 3600 recently, although that 3600 will be redundant now I suppose. If you can get a 5800X at a good price, it's a solid chip and will be for a good while.

I won't link/etc here as it'll get grief but my 5900x + ram on the MM shortly/this evening :)
Last bits left from my last desktop build.
