Got some advice off Reddit but didn’t really help lol.

Original idea was 5900X or 5950X but a couple people said 5700X3d. What should I go with? I do a decent amount of gaming but I mostly do music production with plugins that take a good amount of CPU.

Upgrading from a 3600 but struggling to get a real answer as to what would be the best.

Current specs are
Mobo - b450 tomahawk max
CPU - 3600
GPU - RTX 3070
RAM - 2x16gb

If your music work uses the cores: get the 5900X/5950X, if it doesn't then the 5700X3D is superior for gaming.

I'd think you can answer this yourself though, if your 3600 handles the music work fine, then the 5700X3D gives you 2 extra cores AND much better gaming performance.

3600 is pretty much on the edge for the music stuff, struggles a bit sometimes when there’s a lot of plugins.

Is there a massive difference between 5900x and 5700x3d for gaming? Seems to be differing opinions everywhere I look

It depends on the graphics card, the game being played and the resolution/detail settings. Some games love the cache and show big gains in FPS, some don't. The difference is occasionally large enough it could be considered generational, so if you're primarily a gamer you'd get the X3D every time. If you're a casual gamer that isn't bothered (especially if you're primarily single player) and/or don't play the games that care about the 3D cache, the 5900X/5950X are fine with a 3070.

Is that with all your cores being loaded, or just one or two?
