Hi all,

I built my current 5900X rig back in Jan 2021, the only game I really play now is MS Flight Simulator 2020. Tests have shown that this game benefits greatly from 3D V-Cache technology. Wondering if I should swap over?

I know I would be loosing 4 physical cores. However, I'm sure I will upgrade the whole platform in another 12-18 months anyway, long before that becomes an issue. The 5800X3D is now quite competitively priced and I could offset much of the cost by selling my 5900X. The move (won't call it an upgrade) would cost about £100.

I plan to continue to use my 3080 for now, and will see what RDNA 3 yields in Dec. I plan on upgrading my GPU along with moving to a 4K monitor in the next year and then upgrade the platform further down the road.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies all. I currently have a 1440 ultrawide and RTX 3080, so it could be beneficial. At the moment, my FS2020 main thread performance is holding back my GPU somewhat.

If I go for a 5800X3D, I would probably stick with the X570 platform until Zen 5/2024.

On a side note, I have also been thinking about upgrading to a 4K display and upgrading my GPU at the same time to accommodate this (unfortunately a very expensive exercise) - I have had my ultrawide since 2016. Appreciate that the gains in FS2020 afforded by the 5800X3D would start to diminish as I become more GPU bound. Anyhow, that's another discussion and I'm on the fence with that one!

i went from a 5900x to a 5800x3d as well. 10/10 would recommend
I went from a 5900X and it cost me around £100 but I couldn't be happier. Yes, some games are unaffected, but in many it's noticeably faster (War Thunder is now locked to my frame rate limit of 237 at 1440p, Spider-Man Remastered ran much better and overall games feel smoother with better 1% lows).
Thanks again for the replies all. It's also good to hear positive feedback from some who have made this swap. FS2020 is performance is my top priority for my gaming rig.
