ExplainSome of those prices might seem like a bargain come the end of the year!

Now down to £589.98 and £799.98 for the 5900x and 5950x. Seems prices are sliding downards nicely![]()
I have a Ryzen 9 3950X, is there any point in upgrading to a Ryzen 9 5950X??
The only thing I can see is the increase in clock speed by 200MHz?? I can also get SAM on the 3950, now, which was part of the reason for looking at the 5950 in the first place!
I also see from the Listing on OCUK that the price has reduced by 4% (£40) to £799! so is it worth my while and then flog the 3950??
Well it's definitely a good price at £799, at Overclockers.. I'd be lying, if I said I wasn't tempted.
And selling your 3950X, would certainly go towards the cost of the upgrade.
But you might, want to hold off.. There's always potential for the price to fall further, and potentially below the MSRP of £750.
Also the latest rumours are that WARHOL will release this year. This been ZEN3+ refresh on AM4 Motherboards, very similar to the 3900XT / 3800XT variants last year. With a further 10-12% IPC increase in performance, achieved with higher clocks mainly.
Good thinking.
Isn't this the last AM4 socket CPU upgrade they are doing before an actual socket change?
Ultimately the decision is with yourself, and your bank account, what route you go.
And I too, am in the market for a 16 Core AM4 Processor, be that the Vermeer (5950x) or Warhol (6950X naming I think.) I don't know which processor I'll get yet, let's see how Warhol releases.
Yes, your correct Warhol, is the last AM4 Processor.
Beyond that, the road maps, indicate Raphael 7000 Series, will be DDR5 and have 40-45% IPC increase, on a new AM5 socket!
Prey tell, why is that ?
Explain
Because it is WELL known in the industry that prices are on an upward trend (for a variety of reasons).
It surprises me that forumites here would not know that...
Before covid hit i would say the prices were lower than they have ever been for certain products, only trend for price hikes other than covid is scalpers/mining.
Most of this stuff comes from China/Far East so I doubt brexit has made much difference as the supply issues have been worldwide.Well before Covid hit, Brexit hadn't kicked in, so that's one.

Surely then all electrical goods would be effected yet there is no problem buying phones, laptops, TVs, motherboards and SSDs etc at msrp.LOL, and you think "this stuff" just magically transports straight into the UK? Come on now.. I did say this was ONE of the reasons, and I can tell you as someone who makes a living in the I.T. game it most certainly IS one of them.
And you did read the links I posted to see the OTHER reasons? Especially the Bloomberg one - I know it's a weighty article, but it's all in there.

Seem to have a bit of an attitude problem don't you @user2000, no one can see the future even you unfortunately. A forum is a place for sharing and gaining information not pretending to be a messiah stood above the rest. I have seen all this information you have posted and so have many others but that does not mean like every other article it is set in stone, hearsay this hearsay that.
Speak for yourself @Loxa regarding your own holier-than-thou attitude son, these forums are full of worse offenders than you label me to be!
I simply posted a couple of examples out of hundreds of such reports regarding the reasons as to why tech products have become scarcer and more expensive and will continue to do so for some time. I was questioned as to the validity of it when the poster clearly hadn't read what I linked to (as the answers were in there, that's why I linked to it). A common foible in "information" sharing forums like these, open mouth and let belly rumble instead of researching first.
I work in the industry so what I said is based on real world experience and years of knowledge. Maybe you are another one who should bookmark this thread for later in the year to see if what has been forecast by MANY experts in the field comes to pass and indeed is already visibly in motion, long before Covid came along (based on facts which I have already posted the evidence for)? Make it up as you go along though, you are of course free to do so... A lot of people seem to like making up their own facts and dismissing experts these days right enough and nobody like being told they are wrong, so I can see why you may think that equates with having an "attitude problem" lol. You don't like what I'm saying, no need to read or reply!
Note: I not proclaiming MYSELF to be an expert in this matter - only that I can recognise and follow expert testimony and separate fact from fiction being in a position to observe it as it is happening as can the vast majority of my peers in my line of work.
