5950x and Noctua NH-D15 is this "normal"?

Hi, wasn't sure where the best place to post this would be.

Long story short I have a 5950x being cooled by a Noctua D15, I've been messing about with curve optimiser and managed to increase my performance but I'm hitting temps of 90c+.

I'm new to the amd side, and not sure if what I'm experiencing is normal or not given the cinebench results and the cooler I'm using.

I've been trying to find a point of reference but I've not come across anyone with the same cpu and cooler.

Would appreciate any input, especially from anyone with the same cpu and cooler.

Temps in the 80’s aren’t unheard of but 90+ does seem higher than it should be. Checked for good contact on the cooler and CPU? You remembered to remove the plastic from the heat sink when you put it on?

What case and cooling do you have?

Yes I made sure there was nothing at all on the heatsink contact surface, in fact I'm a bit ocd and always clean the cpu and heatsink with isopropryl alcohol before applying thermal compound.

The only thing that may be an issue is my case, I'm using an NZXt H510i which certainly isn't known for it's great cooling.

I've maxed out the case with Noctua cooling fans.

What does it hit with absolutely everything at stock?

I can't remember, let me reset my bios to default and run the tests.

That suggests to me your overclock was a bit too hectic!

I read about people adjusting PPT TDC and EDC, I had no idea what my values were set to as my motherboard doesn't show the voltages when set to Auto. SO I ran cinebench again while having Ryzen Master running to see what my values were. I've adjusted them down manually by 10 and it has dropped my temps by 5 degrees. So I'm hitting 85c

I guess I'll experiment and see how far I can drop those values.

Would you say my temps while running fully stock were normal? If so that would indicate there's nothing wrong with how I've mounted the cooler?

thanks in advance.

Your stock numbers look very good. Nothing wrong with cooler
The motherboard probably maxes out PBO limits. Which makes CPU boost almost unconstrained until it hits temperature cutoff.

Defo way to aggressive with overclock and volts. I got better temps on my single fan D15s and similar multicore score with just PBO.

Temps peaked at 83 with PBO, and Multicore. At stock doesn't break 65.

PBO/AutoOC in a 5950x is too much for air cooling that's why you going over 90c, if you still want to use PBO you will need to fiddle with undervolting
