I am thinking about building a 5960X/RVE based PC

Could you tell me what the average 5960X is capable of when overclocked on water please. Also if I went for LD Phase change would that involve a lot of work with insulation around the mobo.

Also would these be the best option for overclocking and high physics scores on the futuremark benches.

Do they also have much room for tuning as well.

Thanks.

Thanks for the replies

I am looking to start building around xmas time so I have a little time yet.

The most like cooling solution I will use is water with external rads as the other thing I need to get in the case is dual PSUs and with the LD cases I think that would be a bit difficult. I just hate having to use a case like the 900D to do it as I find the one I have got a bit flimsy.

At the moment Kaap with ram its seems its the luck of the draw, OC ability is all over the place, my 2666 gskills which i paid £230 for will go upto 3200, but generally 2666 tightens better for me and 90% of the time gives the best results, there running at 12-12-13-15-1T-270.
Better kits are on the way, so my advice is if your buying now get a cheaper set and you could get lucky or wait a little for the "gauranteed-ish" ones, imo there is no point spending more than £250 on DDR4 at this current time.

I have gone for the 3000mhz Corsair Dominators to start with but I expect to be upgrading in the future when something better arrives.

I am also seeing very strange things with X99 performance, there does not seem to be a huge difference in RAM performance whatever is in use.

The other strange thing is the X99 hexcores seem to perform better (after taking into account the number of cores) than the 5960X with the RAM.

And you say you're not rich ;) *jk*

Do a build log, Will be interesting to see :)

There is a build log Called T-REX in that section of the forums. Unfortunately I have not got very far as the 900D case that turned up was faulty and is now waiting to be RMAed.

If I post pics over on OC3D I think TTL will have a fit as it is going to be not very pretty, function comes first.:D

Phase Change no need. Thats not enough heat capacity for X chip or even K chip to be honest.

Your correct IMC does seem to be better / more efficient on K chips over the X SKU.

In the end I have gone for water cooling/chiller but I will be using a LD V8 case but no phase change.

They do scale with cold though

Kaap you should be able to do some variety of 3200 with those on 100 strap easily. I've flashed to new bios with updated microcode and this is achievable under 1.4v. (Dom Plat 2800)

HCI stress tested at T2 however for 24/7 stability.

In the end I went for the Corsair Dominator 3000mhz kit as they are Cas 15 out of the box and will upgrade to something better in 6 months or so when available.

That is good performance you are getting on Cinebench, it makes my 4930k look very slow.
