Good afternoon, I've recently purchased a 5960k, gigabyte x99 Ud4, 16gb of team dark 3000mhz ram it's currently in a watercooled loop just for the CPU.

After hours on prime my hottest core was 55 degrees so I'm deciding to overclock it nothing major but I was wondering if you had the rough settings for me just to get to say 4.2 if something higher is easily achievable that'd be great.

Any sort of input would be fantastic.

I've tried multiple times however just can't get it stable it's not as simple as increasing the vcore with x99 unfortunately for me :(

You might find that running your ram ay 3Ghz is affecting the overclock on your cpu?

There are loads of guides on the web have a look and post your settings so we can see what you are running.

Matt

My ram is currently running at 2133mhz.

So it could've been that at the time however I'm not too worried about the ram speed just want higher clocks on my 5960x

Quite old and some of the stuff regarding higher RAM speeds don't apply now (you shouldn't need to move away from the 100MHz BCLK/strap), but that's the best that I've seen for people new to overclocking Haswell-E in general (not just a 5960X).

As per the guide, I'd suggest you set your input voltage and LLC before doing anything else. On my X99-Deluxe massive vDroop made all overclocks unstable and a hell to test. LLC level 7 and it's been stable as a rock, no droop or spikes. On your Gigabyte board I have no idea how this would work however.
