5960X under water, is this normal?

I've put together a 5960X rig with the raystorm 750 kit:

I'm running intel burn test at the moment (writing this on the old rig) and am seeing 70 degrees in HWMonitor.
CPU VCore is 0.95
CPU speed is 4GHz
HT is enabled (16 threads)
HWMonitor is also reporting a peak power use of 194W (averaging about 185W)

The temps seem a bit high, tho this is on max stress level.
I'm also a bit surprised by the power useage, 185W seems quite high.
First result has just appeared, 146 GFlops, this seems very low :(

Can anyone shed any light on what's wrong?
 
Looks normal to me for a stress test and with an overclock.

Mine goes into the 70 degree range under stress test at 1.3 volts @ 4.6 Ghz but that's washed out by a larger 360mm Rad that's also thicker.

Power level also seems kind of normal and I have seen power pull of 250 watts+ alone on this CPU OC'd.
 
It would seem I only have 1 fan running! That would explain a degree or 2.
The Gflops seem low tho. Is there something else I should be testing performance with these days?
 
Try cinebench r15, easy to gage from that whether it's performing in line with other 5960x's at the same speed.

I'm not sure Intel Burn Test is advised on newer CPU's, some of the stress tests draw an extreme amount of power that you would never see in real world useage, prime95 has actually damaged some Haswell-E processors.
 
Intel degrade test!!

Use XTU which is recommended by Intel or Real world stress test like Real Bench.
 
You can check temps with Coretemp on that CPU its working well or even XTU's built in app.

At 4.6/4.5 Cache and 2666mhz mems you should be around 1830 points. Not sure at 4g whats the correct efficiency.
 
Clearly, I'm too far down the food chain on speed, which is why I've struggled to get comparative data. Just scored 166K in RealBench, which seems fair.
I guess it's time to head to 4.4G
 
Well, XTU seems to work, 2292 which is pretty much the expected 10% gain on the 4G result.
I'm not sure I'm reading the correct result for Vcore, HWMonitor says 0.92 (I set it to 1.1 in the BIOS, with 0.1 offset).
XTU tuning options are showing me what I set in the BIOS, so are the cores running at 1.1 or 1.2?
 
Try using CPU-Z to see the vcore under load, HWMonitor can get the values wrong, AIDA64 also has good sensor reading software.
 
OK, using CPU-Z, I see VCore 1.197, the same as VID in HWMonitor, so the VCore in HWM is just plain wrong I assume? Neither values changed when I ran the test.
If the offset is always applied, what's the point? (There obviously is one, but I can't see it yet).
 
VCORE for me in HWMonitor is the CPU input voltage, but the one you have would be too low to be input voltage so god knows what it's reading, maybe the idle VCORE.

Your VCORE according to CPU-Z is right.

Peak would be 16 FLOPS/cycle so 512 GFLOPS peak with that chip at that speed. About 90% of peak is typical so 470 ish would be your target.

Getting 146 GFLOPS tells me your version is probably out of date and is only using AVX, not AVX2. With AVX you'd want to see about 235 ish GFLOPS (half the AVX2 number), so the rest of the deficiency is probably down to not using enough memory. You could up it by 250-500 MB at a time and see if the GFLOPS goes up too.

You might have more luck with LinX, it's better maintained. It will be a serious heat load though.
