Hi,

I'm running a 5970 with a 5870.
The heat from the 5970 is so hot, i can feel the heat from under my desk. yes i can turn the fan up, but far to loud.
So is there a after market cooler that would be better? water cooling is out the question :(

Thanks a lot :)

The heat generated from the dual GPUs on your 5970 will have to go somewhere eventually. In the FT02, this heat is expelled quickly out of the case (with help from reference 5970 cooler) so I would say your experience with a hot desk is quite normal.

I wouldn't recommend getting an aftermarket GPU cooler that blows air partially back into the case. It would just make the case hotter inside and delay the hot air from escaping your FT02 case.

I run my 5970 in the x16 slot and my 5870 in the x8 so they have more space between and there is no performance loss by using the x8.

I also fitted a small fan infront of the cards to blow cool air right into the front slots and the highest my 5970 gets is 70c load where before when i ran both in x16 without fan the 5970 would hit 90c.

Thanks for the reply guys.
What kind of benchmark have you used so i can compare it to make sure mine other 5870 is working. i can't even adjust the fan on the 5870 via CCC or after burner. ?

Cheers.

lots of benchmarks the scores will depend on you cpu and how high its overclocked.

Vantage - Heaven and AVP are the ones i use.

Vantage the highest score ive got was 33k thats with i7 at 4 gig

Heaven i get 89 fps

and AVP

There are lots of bencmark suites out there so see which one you like, furmark, heaven benchmark unigine) etc. Running three instances of GPUZ will show the 5970 and 5870 stats.
